  • everybody's working on the weekend

    Oh wait, that's just me.

We're doing a phone system upgrade this weekend, and I get to come in and make sure that some of the administrative stuff is take care of before Monday morning.

The only upside is that the commute will be a lot shorter than normal... probably about 55 minutes instead of 90. I'll stop myself before I rant.

  • my time is so...

What's the word I'm looking for?

Things I've been working on lately include del.icio.us, [dropcase], a site for a friend, and the latest (but long-planned) site that started on this very blog.

More on that (and other things) soon. Sorry to be so vague, but I gotta get outta here and drive home.

  • staying awake is important while driving

Any tricks on staying awake while driving at night?

There's a company thing for me tonight, and I won't be getting home 'til after 11:30. Even though things are slow, it's been a really long day already. Still at least 6 hours until I can sleep.

It would be nice to have tomorrow off, but no such luck.

  • pick three, pick any three

I was discussing the power choices with some people at lunch the other day, and one guy said they play the same thing, but in a slightly different way. This is a little more open-ended:

What three super-powers would you choose?

You'd get to have all three, but it's tough to pick what you'd want, right? Time to get creative - like people have mentioned, there are some powers that lend themselves to covering another power (like super-strength giving you super-speed).

  • super easy pumpkin dip

By popular demand (both of you who asked), here's the pumpkin dip I was talking about. The name is made up, but the result is delicious:
    _______________________________________
    Super Easy Pumpkin Dip
    1 can pumpkin
1 8oz block of cream cheese
    1 cup confectioner's sugar
cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to taste

Blend all ingredients, then (as my wife put it): whip it, whip it good.

Very tasty with ginger snaps, and watch out for eating a whole box of them with it.

  • p is for pumpkin

seasons, Yes, they're great for carving, but how about some recipes for them? Ok, if anyone has links or pictures of carved pumpkins, I'll take those too...

Since I got some great ideas on the apples, I wondered about some of the other "fall" items. This time I don't know that anyone will give varieties to eat, but then again, we can't be sure.

My wife has a recipe for this great pumpkin dip, and it's very tasty with ginger snaps. If anyone's interested, I can probably post it.

  • a is for apple

One of the reasons I really like autumn is apple picking, and especially the tasty things that are made with those apples. There's apple crisp, and apple fritters, apple pie, caramel apples (ad nauseum). I won't get all Bubba Gump about it, but apples are so tasty.

EXCEPT for delicious apples. I think it's a poor name for them, 'cause they really aren't that tasty. Ok, I'm slightly biased against them now because I'm allergic (only to them, oddly enough), but I wasn't when I was younger...

    Any suggestions for apple goodness?

  • power choice #5

    Elasticity or Solidity?

This one needs some explanation - think Mr Fantastic vs. Thing (almost).

Elasticity would be the ability to stretch yourself out into almost any shape you wanted. Solidity would be the ability to change your density from what you are now to something more dense. You would stay the same size, but could be as solid (and yet still move) as stone or metal.

How's that? Feel free to leave reasons with it as well...

    Previous choices:
First: Heat vision or X-Ray vision?
Second: Super speed or super strength?
    Third: Telepathy or telekinesis?
    Fourth: Flight or teleportation?

  • audiobooks saved my sanity

They continue to save my sanity, as long as I have them.

I've mentioned this before, but I have a long commute. Not ridiculous, but long enough to be really annoying on some days. Besides the podcasts I listen to, I've been listening to a lot of Audiobooks, and they've been wonderful.

I found a bunch the other day, so I'll be listening to The Invisible Man, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, and a few others. I'm currently listening to The Bourne Identity (copied from tapes), which I read a few years ago, and it's very different from the (newer) movies.

Anyone have suggestions for (preferably free) audiobooks?

  • wordification and verbing

Does anyone else out there make up their own words? Or make nouns into verbs (I call it verbing)?

I do, and I'm sure there are a lot of other people out there who do as well.

I was thinking about hammocking. You could swing in a hammock, or just lay there, or curl up in one (if it's the right kind). That all falls under the umbrella of hammocking. Some day I'll write out all of the words my friends and I have made up, but hammocking is a good start.

Another trend would be adding "-age" to... well, just about anything. All this bloggage is making tired, maybe from the typage I'm doing. Is there really such a word as signage? It was brought up in a meeting at a preschool by a consultant, and someone questioned them about it.

This is something that I think Jennifer and Dan would like. If you talk to them, let them know please.
