audiobooks saved my sanity
They continue to save my sanity, as long as I have them.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I have a long commute. Not ridiculous, but long enough to be really annoying on some days. Besides the podcasts I listen to, I’ve been listening to a lot of Audiobooks, and they’ve been wonderful.
I found a bunch the other day, so I’ll be listening to The Invisible Man, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, and a few others. I’m currently listening to The Bourne Identity (copied from tapes), which I read a few years ago, and it’s very different from the (newer) movies.
Anyone have suggestions for (preferably free) audiobooks?

Definitely check out your local library. Most of them have a fairly decent selection of audiobooks that you can check out and rip to MP3 or whatever. Some libraries even have the ability to “check out online” audiobooks for download. My hometown library (Troy, MI) partners with NetLibrary for audiobook and eBook downloads, once you sign up for an account on-site.
I’m sure you could Google around and find “free” audiobooks out there (torrents and such), but it’s worth noting that eMusic.com now sells DRM-free MP3 audiobooks in addition to music.
I could send you an invite
Thanks Bill, good call on the Library. I just looked, and mine has audiobooks through overdrive.com.
I started off with that and found a few. Sure, send me an invite… I have probably 70% of signups on stuff from you already. heh.
