  • wordification and verbing

Does anyone else out there make up their own words? Or make nouns into verbs (I call it verbing)?

I do, and I'm sure there are a lot of other people out there who do as well.

I was thinking about hammocking. You could swing in a hammock, or just lay there, or curl up in one (if it's the right kind). That all falls under the umbrella of hammocking. Some day I'll write out all of the words my friends and I have made up, but hammocking is a good start.

Another trend would be adding "-age" to... well, just about anything. All this bloggage is making tired, maybe from the typage I'm doing. Is there really such a word as signage? It was brought up in a meeting at a preschool by a consultant, and someone questioned them about it.

This is something that I think Jennifer and Dan would like. If you talk to them, let them know please.

  • speaking of powers...

    Heroes premiere tonight. w00t.

I really like that show. It's got a little of everything... I just need to get the DVD of season 1 and watch the whole thing. Anyone else watching it tonight?

If you had one of the characters' powers, who would you pick?

Oddly enough, the power choices from last week had nothing to do with this, at least not directly.

  • power choice #4

    Fourth:
    Flight or teleportation?

To clarify, this is flying unaided (unless you wanted wings or something), or teleporting to a "known" destination. I was going to put a restriction on the distance, but I'll let you guys hash it out.

    Previous choices:
First: Heat vision or X-Ray vision?
Second: Super speed or super strength?
    Third: Telepathy or telekinesis?

  • power choice #3

    Third:
    Telepathy or telekinesis?

(read people's minds or move things with your mind, in case anyone needed help)

Again, feel free to leave reasons... I think this would be a good one to explain. Suggestions are welcome.

In response to TCN's pondering - it's not like that, this is something I wanted to do on my own. I suppose it could be used to figure out that you want to burn and smash things... heh.

    Previous choices:
First: Heat vision or X-Ray vision?
Second: Super speed or super strength?

  • power choice #2

    See the previous choice:
    Heat or X-Ray vision

    Second:
    Super speed or super strength?

Don't forget to say why (if you want)...

  • the power choices... heat or x-ray vision?

For the next few of posts, I want to get people's input on some choices in superpowers. Don't worry if you don't see what you want, it might come up soon (and feel free to suggest). Just choose one of the two powers, and a reason why (if you feel like it).

    First:
    Heat vision or X-Ray vision?

  • stupid drivers

    ...it's a long list, I understand.

I have a long drive to work. Not the longest or worst, but it's still long. it's about 47 miles each way, and lately (with traffic), about 90 minutes each way. If there's no traffic, I can make it in about 55 minutes, but that rarely happens. The only upside to this is that I've had a lot of time to listen to podcasts and get caught up on some books I've wanted to read (and some I've read before, but wanted to hear).

One of the big downsides is the stupid drivers. It's one thing to make a little mistake, like fading to the side of your lane (but not cross over), and correct it quickly. It's completely another to swing into the lane next to you without warning and almost hit the person who you didn't see... since you were too busy on the phone to look out the side.

It's unfortunate that there's nothing that can be done, no traffic vigilante posse that tags drivers who are piss-poor. I think Gallagher (the comedian, in case you're not sure) suggested everyone having "stick 'em dart guns" (aka suction-cup darts). Then the cops would pull over the vehicle with a half-dozen on it and give them a ticket.

Would people drive better if they knew that everyone was actually paying attention?

    ...or...

Would it cause more problems by inciting road-rage in people who felt wrongly "stuck" by others?
